CLASSIC FOCUS:
EMMANUEL'S
BOOK : Compiled by Pat Rodegast & Judith Stanton
(Bantam New Age Books Originally published in 1985)
There have been so many books that claim to be the spoken word of a being from "the other side" who is here to bring us the wisdom that comes with dying. "Emmanuel's Book" is no exception on this point, but it is a classic filled with wonderful words regardless of your belief as to the true nature of "Emmanuel".
I personally witnessed Pat Rodegast "Channel" Emmanuel and was very skeptical. After a while, whether I believed that this was being from the other side didn't matter. What did matter were the words, which came in the form of responses to audience questions. They were wonderful answers. Sometimes they were dead perfect.
If you've ever read a good novel that had a great message, or seen a movie that left you feeling a bit more enlightened on a subject, then you'll know what I mean when I say, "it doesn't matter if this is real or not." It doesn't.
This book is filled with gems.
Questions for Emmanuel often query "life on the other side".
Emmanuel:
"Dying is self-regulating. It is of Divine origin. It is absolutely safe."
An answer like this actually gets a great chuckle from the audience. Saying that Death is "Absolutely Safe" is great comedy.
Another question: "What does it actually feel like while we're dying?"
Emmanuel's response: "Dying is akin to having been in a rather stuffy room where too many people are talking and smoking and suddenly you see a door that allows you to exit into fresh air and sunlight." "... like taking off a shoe that is too tight."
My favorite question, "Emmanuel, what time is it?"
This is a great question, and a type that audience members ask with the hint of a "test in progress." Asking a spirit the time, testing the quantum physics of it all. Seeing if Old Emmanuel is wearing watch. Is Emmanuel on Eastern or Mountain time? The room is silent, suppressed chuckles all around.
Emmanuel's answer, "NOW."
The introduction the "Emmanuel's Book" was written by Ram Dass. In it he states, "In (this book) there is really nothing new. It's all been said before somewhere or other in the mystic literature. Emmanuel himself points this out and says that we are not in need of any new information. We already have everything we need. But though it's all been said before,we need to hear it again and again, and to hear it in terms appropriate to the current context or 'zeitgeist' in which we find ourselves. Emmanuel does that wonderfully well."
I wont say what I believe as far as the actually nature of Emmanuel, but I will say that I agree with Ram Dass and this book remains on my book shelf of classics.
