Robert Johnson was among the first to present Carl Jung's complex theories with simple elegance and grace, opening them to an entirely new and hungry audience. His masterful works - including the bestselling HE, SHE, INNER WORK, and OWNING YOUR OWN SHADOW - are known and loved as much for their beautiful retellings of timeless myths and folktales as for their deep wisdom and profound insight.
Balancing Heaven and Earth: A Memoir of Visions, Dreams, and Realizations reveals, for the first time, Johnson's own facination and mystical life - from his near-death experience at the age of eleven to the lifelong soul journey that has informed his writing and taught him how to live a spiritual life in the endlessly challenging modern world. This book lays bare Johnson's own inner world and it's dazzling landscape of powerful dreams, mystical visions, and synchronistic events.
Lending a helping hand in the making of this book is Jerry M. Ruhl, PhD, a writer, psycholotherapist, consultant, and director of the C.G. Jung Society of Coloroado. He teaches college courses in psychology and is a frequent lecturer on illness, healing and Jungian psychology.
The original "working title" to this memoir was "SLENDER THREADS: The Mysterious, Unseen Forces that Guide Our Lives". The idea of a devine slender thread linking lives and moments is known well to "Jungians" around the world as SYNCHRONICITY. The term, as described by Jung, ". . . has something to do with time or, to be more accurate, with a kind of simultaneity. Instead of simultaneity we could also use the concept of meaningful coincidence of two or more events, where something other than the probabilty of chance is involved." ("On Synchronicity" C.W. Vol. 8, pars 969-997) The working title may not have been a good choice for commercial purposes, but after reading this wonderful book, I feel it was a good description of what was printed.

I first met Robert A. Johnson about 11 years ago after
one of his lectures. In addition to giving a wonderful talk on the
concept of "Owning your own Shadow" he shared some of his
3D projection slides taken during one of many visits to India. It
was evident that India had made an impact on this man's life. Some
of the vivid slides were shocking and some were beautiful and viewed
for too short a period of time. Heaven & Earth dedicates
almost half of it's pages to this powerful experience in Johnson's
life.
As in all Robert Johnson books, there is a devotion to the power of myth and dreams. The idea of "individualtion" is present in all Johnson works. Carl Jung once said to Johnson, "Please remember, it is what you are that heals, not what you know." Balancing Heaven and Earth shows us who Robert Johnson is. - John M. (RecoveryWorld) |
If you have never read any of Robert's works, Try "WE"; a fantastic book about realtionships, My favorite is "INNER WORK", although it is difficult to find a copy of this latter book on shelves lately, it is one of the best "tool books" for anyone interested in personal dream work, and individualtion. -JJM/RecoveryWorld News
